The Facility

The Language Lab and Cultural Center, located on the second floor of the LRC, is meant to serve students enrolled in language classes at ORU, or anyone needing resources to learn a foreign language. Two large rooms make up the LLCC: LR 232C contains 10 computer stations for students to watch movies and to use Cultural Center software and access online resources. There is also a "TV corner" where a small group can enjoy watching a movie together. Two large tables provide space for study and even for faculty to hold small classes. There is a large array of books, magazines, DVDs, CD-ROMs and audio CDs which can acquaint students with another country's culture as well as teach various aspects of language construction. Most importantly, the LLCC employs lab assistants proficient in target languages to provide tutoring and target language practice for students  currently enrolled in a course or anyone wishing to enhance his or her langauge skills. The classroom next door (LR 232B) funtions as a regular classroom and contains:

• the Sympodium smart board display at the instructor station that provides unique interactive lecturing capabilities
• an ELMO video presentation stand to display a projected image of anything under the document camera
• a Panasonic LCD display projector with 8-foot screen

Students are welcome to use this room when available as a quiet place to study or practice their language skills. The LLCC also often serves as the venue for various language club events, honor society initiation ceremonies, and other cultural events. If you would like to use either of the rooms to host an event, please contact the LLCC coordinator.
