Dr. Julie Ma is a professor in undergraduate theology. Her academic area is intercultural studies and mission. She had over 20 years of teaching experiences: 10 years at Pacific Theological Seminary in the Philippines as a missionary professor and another 10 years at Oxford Center Mission Studies as Research Tutor in Oxford, UK.

During her missionary time in the Philippines, in addition to her teaching ministry, Dr. Ma with her husband were involved in evangelism and church planting among tribal people groups in the mountain and in the training of mountain church leaders. In total, for 27 years, they undertook missionary work in the Philippines. In 2006 she moved to Oxford to be part of the faculty team which operated a Ph.D program in mission studies.

Courses Dr. Ma taught include Cultural Anthropology, Biblical Theological of Mission, Mission Perspective, Contextualization, Folk Religion, Pentecostal Mission and Seminar in Asian Mission. She has numerous books authored and (co-)edited. Her latest book is the revised edition of Mission Possible: Biblical Strategy for the Lost (2016). In 2009, she received Annual Award of Excellence by the Foundation for Pentecostal Scholarship for the chapter “Changing Images: Women in Asian Pentecostalism.”

Areas of her particular research interest are: power encounter in healing, power evangelism, the role of the Holy Spirit in mission, Pentecostal spirituality, church planting and growth and Pentecostal women ministry.

Dr. Ma served as the president of Asia Pentecostal Society from 2014-2015 and worked as a council (and also executive) member for the Edinburgh centenary celebration in 2010.

She has two sons who grew up in the Philippines. The elder son has dedicated his life to missionary work in the Philippines since 2005. Living now in Manila, the family has blessed the Mas with two adorable grandchildren. The younger son lives and works in Seoul, Korea. The whole family is licensed scuba divers enjoying the beauty of God’s creation, often hidden under the water. Her hobbies are hiking, walking along the river side and listening to classic music.
