Program Overview
Oral Roberts University’s Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Music Performance program empowers you to express and develop your creative abilities. With passion and hard work, you’ll have the opportunity to excel as a musical performer as you are challenged to continuously grow in aptitude.
The major offers three concentration areas for you to choose from. The Instrumental Emphasis provides weekly lessons in a lecture-discussion-demonstration format for you to flourish as a professional musician. You’ll amplify the unique expression and understanding of your role as a Spirit-filled artist in today’s world.
The Keyboard Emphasis engages you in keyboard presentation for a future profession in individual or group performance. You will establish a firm foundation to exceed in a musical career, pursue graduate study or teach others about the gift of music.
With the Vocal Emphasis, you’ll gain experience with the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA source) and its application to language. Specific management issues relating to the use of phonetics in vocal ensemble are brought to light. You will be presented with the main elements of human sound production and basic vocal faults along with teaching and diagnostic techniques used in practical application.
ORU’s Music Department regularly presents concerts and recitals, providing opportunities to appear as a soloist and perform in both small and large ensembles so get ready to shine your musical light!

What about accreditation?
As a university, we meet the accreditation standards set by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The ORU Music Department is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). ORU is also an American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) approved university.
Are there scholarships available?

DO I NEED TO AUDITION?
Admission to the music program requires an audition with the music department. Students must first apply and be admitted to the university prior to auditioning.
